Lecture 11 in my Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories series.
Often interpreted as an injunction against homosexuality (particularly by those simultaneously claiming identity as Christians and opposed to that orientation), the stories of the angels who visit Abraham, bless him, and then rain destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah are more truly a warning against mistreatment of the stranger and impulsive, dysregulated, sybaritic conduct.
Abraham opens his heart and hearth to the stranger. The denizens of Lot’s soon-to-be lost cities threaten them with violent rape. God exacts a terrible retribution. The warning is clear.

I’m sorry marriage is taking a toll on your mental health, you heterosexuals love screwing up children!!
Leviticus 18:22 KJV:
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
We all know what “sodomy” means. Jordan Peterson is being very intellectually dishonest here.
Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool.
Peterson, your stance on homosexuality and your inability to simply say, “I believe in God” is very telling. I implore you to stop misleading these people with lies for profit.
God isn’t real except in your head. Gay people are thriving in happy marriages. Grow up.
I notice you are anonymous. No courage.
Genesis 19 begins with the arrival in Sodom of two angels (elohim) who have been charged with the destruction of the cities of the plain. They meet Lot at the gate who offers them hospitality – which they reject as they are going to spend the night in the square. They do, however, go with Lot in the end and the mob surrounds Lot’s house demanding that the angels be brought out to them. The argument escalates until the angels strike the mob with blindness. This is a story about attempted angel buggery.
And when Lot’s family went out – the angels rained destruction upon the cities of Shinar.
The historian Josephus wrote about the cities of the plain and their location. Apparently it was tourist attraction of the Roman empire – the Romans were keen on the sulphur balls that the modern tourists still pick up there.

How come nobody ever says they got Gomorrized? That’s when your CO treats you like a chump in front of others…
JP, yer debunking my backward lucky misery in good ways, keep on rockin’ the soul of things…

The destruction of Sodom was not JUST because homosexuality. Homosexuality was not their only sin, but homosexuality was part of the reason. Active homosexuality isn’t an isolated sin, it is a flaw of mind and character that will be accompanied by other sins. Homosexuality and rape was the pinnacle of their moral decay. But don’t be confused. The Bible says that homosexuality is an abomination which degrades the human being and it was punishable by death. If practiced long enough, my guess is that it leads to degradation even at genetic level and there’s no way back. The Sodomites reached that point of no return, so God destroyed them, to protect the other people against the spread of such evil practices and genetic mutations.
Behavior towards strangers was never called an abomination. Remember that God didn’t destroy people and cities guilty of more grave sins than “inhospitality”.
