On January 16th, 2018 Channel 4 aired the now infamous interview between Cathy Newman and Dr. Jordan Peterson. This podcast will first air the original interview and then the interview of Dr. Peterson by Geenstijl that was an analysis of the interview followed with an elaboration on what they think are the five strongest points of Dr. Peterson’s philosophy on “how to be in the world”.
- The centrality of the archetypical hero’s myth
- The central role of the Logos during the hero’s narrative
- Making the right sacrifices when bargaining with the future
- Orienting yourself towards the highest possible good you can conceive
- Minimize your persona, cultivate your essence, and live in its closest possible proximity

Can someone tell me the piano piece that begins and ends this podcast?
I just discovered Mr. Peterson and am now watching some of his interviews and videos. I must say — his thinking is broad and rational and he is a refreshing voice of reason in an age of knee-jerk journalism and guilt-bullies. I applaud his courage and fair-mindedness!
what an idiot. she didn’t have a dog in that fight. she brought a knife to a gun fight and she got her ass handed to her. speechless and dead air on live t.v. i hope she got reprimanded for that. you can’t try to bully and coerce a clinical psychologist, you loser. he does this for a living. it’s child’s play. ugh, so satisfying to see her tuck her tail and swallow her words.
Prof. Peterson, I offer this theory up for your perusal. I believe it to have affine assocations with some of your known. Kind regards.
Animals are in psychic synchrony with their young, animals are in psychic synchrony with their human masters, animals are attuned but not necessarily in said synchrony with other animals that are not their young nor of their pack or herd, nor, in the case of domesticated animals, their masters. Such synchrony is lessened by the intensification of sexual hormones, this contributes, in addition to the already well known biochemical effects of said chemicals, to increased competition and conflict among animals of a same pack or herd, this hormonal disruption of psychic synchrony also contributes to the phenomenon of independence or separation of animal young from the parent to which they were previously bonded.
Man intuitively learned to exploit the psychic attunement between many animals, certainly between most if not all mammals living at least in the same vicinity, in his process of domestication of other animals, most notably of course dogs. In the case of the latter the supposed phenomenon of psychic synchrony would result in the animal associating the master’s psychic presence or ‘character’ (a generally stable psychic form or state of being) with his own and vice versa, similarly for the master, who also would intuitively come to associate his psychic ‘character’ with that of his pet. Dramatic and prolonged changes to the psychic state of either of the two parts in the psychically synchronic relationship would of course be quickly noticed and serve to alter or sever said relationship. This psychic character that serves in the formation of psychic synchronies can be severely changed via all manner of psychologically-acting external phenomena, some of them mechanistically physical, others simply “visual,” i.e. only physical in their neurochemical effectuations but not the product of mechanistic or physically kinetic impacts. Religion would then, of course, have been an efficient, ritualized system of nevertheless most practical education in the ways of beneficially using and not abusing said psychic attunements linking man to his own, but also to the rest of the animal and perhaps non-animal world.
Abuse of beings can involve and entail not only physical, i.e. mechanistic or kinetically impactful abuse, but also psychic abuse which can coincide with the latterly enumerated forms, of course, or simply coincide with verbal abuse, or, indeed, consist of ‘hardly’ more than consistently applied gestural and/or ‘ocular’ abuse (the use of the eyes to communicate an intuited message, which may be quite impactful, even traumatic in itself). Such abuse may also entail its own micro-rituals, for example, family-specific, which serve as their own short-hand, condensed, and highly psychically-charged forms of ‘education,’ in which case they may be essentially described an an anti-religion, one which educates and inculcates not the lessons of proper psychic consciousness (proper psychic character building and states of being), awareness, behavior, including the psychic dimensions of relationship building, but rather their perverse opposite, principally described as psychic exploitation or manipulation, predicated precisely on the exploitation of the instinctual yearning for proper psychic synchrony, whereby the promise of its obtainment or realization is tantalizingly offered but ultimately left not only undelivered but, in fact, suddenly replaced with the methods of short-term convenient psychic exploitation or manipulation instead.
Abuse of animals by masters or owners of course generally offends those who are not subject to similar pathologies; the abuse of humans has, however, often times less of an offensive impact than the aforesaid abuse of animals, a phenomenon that is, notwithstanding the great complexity of the subject, indicative of barriers that have been built against psychic attunement among strangers consequent to and following the ever greater complexification of human societies. Nevertheless, even within such psychically diluted (or conversely overburdened) highly complex modern societies, the abuse, especially the sexual abuse, of children is still regarded with great abhorrence, a response that should strike the non-pathologized mind as the most natural, indeed painfully so, possible; however, what is often overlooked is the psychic dimension of said child sex abuse, which, as in the case of the abuse of domestic animals, (though of course far more seriously from the humanistic perspective) threatens to disrupt the psychic regimes which undergird the standard forms of human society, menacing especially the ‘sacred’ bonds of proper and authentic ‘psychic synchrony’ between parents and/or carers and their children prematurely, before its proper time concomitant with the (hormonally determined) age of adolescence and, to be sure, in a non-incestuous direction.
Psychic synchrony has historically, and indeed prehistorically, been at the heart of ‘proper’ human social existence, to the extent that this has been achievable in the differing human societies throughout the world. The obvious question, to be sure, How resistant will the remaining reservoirs of psychic synchrony, as maintained and fostered by modern, globally connected societies, prove in the face of the ongoing onslaught of capitalism’s constant, one might say ritualized, exploitation of the same for short term politico-economic gain?
Dear Dr Peterson, I first heard about you in the context of the controversy surrounding this interview. I very much liked the dispassionate and rigorous way in which you answered Cathy Newman’s questions and this prompted me to buy your book ’12 Rules for Life’. Without entering in the merit of your arguments, which may or may not be valid and helpful, I was surprised by the weakness of the supporting evidence you offer for them. For example, in Chapter 1 you go to some length to describe the territorial and mating behaviour of lobsters (choosing this particular species because they have been around for over 350m years), to emphasise the point that aspects of animal behaviour and its underlying neurochemistry, such as dominance hierarchies, have been around for a very long time and any human who chooses to ignore this would do so at his/her peril. There are a number of reasons why this is weak evidence. Firstly, the lobster model of dominance and mating is not universal: other species have rather different ones (in addition, the fact that lobsters have been around for 350m years does not mean necessarily that they have used the same dominance and mating behaviour throughout this time). Secondly, as you say in the book, in nature animals most often evolve by accumulation and though remnants of the ‘old ways’ may persist, the ‘new ways’ that evolve may well trump the old ones (in other words, there are many things we do that our ancestors did not do, despite still having all the neural mechanisms they had). Thirdly, the point about the roles and functions of serotonergic mechanisms is such an oversimplification, as to become totally meaningless: we don’t really have an accurate model of the many functions of the serotonin system, which is likely to much a much more complex regulator of brain function than the book suggests (see for example Crockett et al., 2009: Reconciling the role of serotonin in behavioral inhibition and aversion: acute tryptophan depletion abolishes punishment-induced inhibition in humans). Thank you Filippo Passetti
Hello,
I am posting here re: the CBC interview
About that Nazis & Pepe flag photo shown by the CBC hack during the interview: there is a Jewish man in the picture, wearing a kippah !
Yeah, Pepe the Nazi my ass!
The modern secular state is a product of revolution – a revolution organised and financed by the enemies of the host nationalities. I think divisions and strife is a foregone conclusion.
